Certification of Restaurants

[SinglePic not found]Cretan products and Cretan cuisine hold an important position in international gastronomy due to their high quality and their beneficial effects in human health. In order to preserve, propagate and advertise this nutritional pattern, the four Prefectures of Crete (Heraklion, Lasithi, Rethymnon and Chania) took the initiative to create, in partnership, the Cretan Cuisine Seal of Approval for the certification of restaurants, under the registered name of “Quality Pact of Crete”.

The certification of Cretan cuisine restaurants aims to establish a Quality Seal which will be recognized and sought after by both visitors and residents of Crete in order to taste traditional gastronomy and selected Cretan products. The Quality Seal aims to involve participation of restaurants throughout the island as well as to create a relationship of trust with consumers, in order to play an important role in the promotion of gastronomic tourism in Crete.

The rules and requirements set by the Quality Pact of Crete aim at the preservation and propagation of the Cretan Dietary pattern, at the promotion of its advantages in relation to wellness and longevity, at the boosting of commerce of Cretan products as products of high nutritional value, and at the interaction between local products and tourism in general, through promotion of gastronomic tourism.

The main activities of the Certification Department are the following:

  • Evaluation of the restaurants applying for integration in the Quality Pact of Crete
  • Issue of Quality Seal to companies meeting the requirements
  • Checking operations with the aim of preserving specifications
  • Advertising of the certified restaurants both on a national and international scale.
